BUSTED!

My luck finally ran out this morning and I got popped for speeding by the UTSA police department. Sad thing is, I was actually speeding for a reason this morning as I had 10 minutes to park and hike my ass to a meeting at the Financial AIDS Office to get my loans straightened out. Oh well, I was going almost twice the legal limit so it was my fault and I'll proudly take the ticket.

Amusing addition, I don't even know when he busted me. I have a bad habit of not looking in my rearview mirrors when I'm not actively needing them, so my first knowledge of getting pulled over happened as I got out of my truck to head up to campus and saw the patrol car sitting behind my parking space with his lights on. Was kind of fun - I don't know if it's because I'm a white male, still young enough to have a sense of invincibility, or what, but I have absolutely no anxiety when I get pulled over. Had a nice little chat with the officer who ticketed me, and the bike officer who subsequently arrived helped alleviate my boredom while waiting for my plates to be processed by engaging in jovial banter. 100 bucks (prorated down by the amount of times I've torn through there in my years on campus...it works out to about 10 cents per day), but it doesn't go on my driving record 'cause it's a UTSA ticket, so overall I didn't get hit hard at all. Oh, and I even made it in time for my appointment.

Wow...it's been a ride

Woke up looking like a smurf this morning, but I'll get to that in a bit.

Christmas Eve rocked. The day before I had received a call from Brandon asking if I was doing anything Saturday. Of course my schedule was open (it was Christmas Eve and aside from him I had no one to play with) so he invited me to the Lions-Saints game. Fuck yeah. That's the best summation of the time had right there. 6 dollar beers, pain in the ass parking, obnoxious Saints fans, none of it mattered. The seat I got wasn't just any ole seat, oh no, this was in the second row up from the field about 4 seats to the left of the goal post. I got to see Joey Harrington throw a ball I swore was going to hit me in the face (which was unfortunately averted at the last second by a Saints interception in the endzone). After the close scare and realizing that these seats rocked but only when the action was within the Red Zone on our end of the field, we migrated up to the third tier at the 40 yard line for an overview of the game. Anyone who didn't see the game, it was a nail biting win with 0 seconds on the clock for Detroit as they kicked the go ahead Field Goal. My vocal cords still have not recovered from the screaming taking place during that last two minute drive.

After the game I went home, took a brief nap until another friend (to be henceforth called by the alias "Atom" because of the incriminating nature of the following) called to see what I was up to. Barely being able to speak and it still being Christmas Eve I said not a God damn thing, so he asked for a little help wrapping presents that Santa delivered. Now I'm not usually too enthused about wrapping presents, but Santa's delivery was 10 pounds of weed and "wrapping" consisted of making it into 40 QPs. 10 pounds is a sight to behold, believe me, but we got a little assembly line set up and had it done in no time. So if anyone needs anything...

Sunday I went to my Grandpa Tony's for Christmas lunch. Got a call from my other Grandpa (Bruce) saying he was arriving in town and needed directions to where he was staying. To go three miles took 45 minutes of directing because he seems to have an incredible knack for getting lost. During all this my Father called and they were at the hotel unpacking so we decided to meet up for dinner at Rio Rio Cantina on the River. Finally Bruce finds his way, and realizes he had forgot the key at his house in Brazoria (south of Houston) and being the obstinate man he is, he decided to drive the 3 hours back down there and not come back in till Monday. Once everything settled down and Roz got out of work we left to head over to meet my dad. Along the way Roz called her mom and the question came up, "Doe she know you're black?" To which I had no definitive response. I didn't tell him. Maybe Bruce (his father) did? Anyway, I reassured Roz and her mom it was a moot point, we've moved around so much and he has so many people from so many walks of life working for him that if he's prejudiced he hides it amazingly well. Dinner went wonderfully (aside from my brother Shawn calling the quality of the Top Shelf margaritas into question...hanging out with the money is a totally different style of life I tell ya)

Yesterday I met up with my dad, Claudine (his wife), Shawn, and Bruce at Tex's Sports Bar and watched the Michigan Wolverine's (and Nebraska's) pep rally right there on the River. I was 10 feet away from Chad Henne, Michael Hart, etc as they passed on the boat. Of course I was decked out in UT gear, but I made it a point to ruin what was left of my vocal cords singing Hail to the Victors and chanting Go Blue at the top of my lungs. Afterwards we went to the Little Rhein Steakhouse (Like Ruth's Chris but superior) where I had the most delicious Portehouse ever. Melt in your mouth, aged to perfection piece of meat. Of course I'll never be going back because I will never be able to afford it (let alone the wine...I think that cost as much as the meal!), but it was a fun excursion.

After I left there Janel, Brandie, and I went and shot pool at Clicks. It was good clean fun till someone started assaulting me with the talcum powder bag (all in good drunk fun of course) Now I'm covered in white powder and blue streaks (chalk was added to the war) because I didn't have the ability to do much more than pass out once I got home, hence the opening Smurf reference :) Finally Roz (who joined us after work) and Brandie were able to get Janel and myself to settle down...but vengeance is a dish best served cold, and belive me, it's going to be spectacular!

Today I think I'm taking it easy and relaxing. Well drinking heavily somewhere Downtown, but that's relaxing for me :p Tomorrow my family wants to go to Austin and hit 6th Street, which I'm all for because I'll have an open tab, but unfortunately I also (due to the 650 dollars I have received in the past week for being such a perfect little angel all year) want to get tickets to see the Alamo Bowl and watch Michigan trounce Nebraska in person. There's a good chance I can get my dad to push back the Austin trip to Thursday, then I can do both!

Upcoming so start planning if you want in:
January 4th, trekking up to Austin to watch the Rose Bowl on 6th Street. HOOK 'EM HORNS!

Texas Fight...

So out of the blue today I get a call from Janel. Was good to hear from her...until she started in with her USC propaganda. Being proud of your school is one thing, being delusional about their chances to win against the mighty Longhorns in the Rose Bowl is another :) Said she's staying home in Cali for Thanksgiving but will be in for Christmas, so it'll be good to catch up in person (I hate phones-30 minutes and I think I said a grand total of 25 words) Of course she's skipping out on the Rose Bowl and heading to Florida for New Years, where 2000 miles will perhaps hide her tears of shame when UT dominates on the 4th! I've gotta stop talking about it or I'll jinx it like the past two, but I can't help it. She's doing this on purpose, she knows if she but mentions it I'll go off non-stop for days on end, thus increasing the likliehood of a jinx. Goddamn it, I hate people smarter than me, especially when they have said intelligence combined with the natural cunning which comes from being female. Gaaaah

Roz is at work and my sauce is simmering. Wil and Allison called and may be heading over soon, which would be cool. Haven't hung out with them in a while, think I'm down for some chillaxin with the most domestic of the Horsemen :p My apartment is semi-trashed too, so the look of revulsion on Allison's face will make it all worth while (Yes I'm evil, no I don't care!)

I'm all hyper now tho, hm...what to do. I know! *bubbling sounds* Yeah, that'll calm me down!!! Thinkin USC could beat Texas...HAHAHAHAHAHA, man what delusions of grandeur will Cali put in her head next? Gonna go before I begin really exalting the 'Horns and do cause a jinx!

Mon, Nov. 14th, 2005, 12:33 pm
And then there were 5...now 4...

Was supposed to go out with the sisters today and have a catch-up lunch, haven't really had the time to sit and chat with either of them about life, its ups, its downs, its expectations, and its quirks in a hell of a long time. Due to the infallible (read: infernal) politeness of one, the tally of those attending increased by 2, and suddenly lunch becomes an event and I can't be open and candid because (1) I don't operate that way in social situations with non inner-circle people present and (2) It wouldn't be fair to all parties if I did so anyway.

So instead I'm gonna play video games and think positive things about my Foundations test which I shall be receiving back tomorrow. Oh yeah that reminds me (and I'll write here in the hopes that if I forget to tell it will be read) I think I'm gonna have to bail on Beer Tuesday because of my new class attendance (which was supposed to start today, but then I would have gone to 3 of my MWF and only 2 of my TR, so to be fair I'll go to 2 sessions of each class this week :p)

Saturday sometime for a reschedule? Maybe? We'll figure something out I'm sure, but until then my stories shall have to remain untold...the epic struggle that is my life, silenced. :D Not to be too dramatic about it or nothin'.

Long time...

So Morgan (the cat who was granted temporary asylum in my my apartment from the war-torn ravages of her own invaded domicile) just woke me up at 6 AM on a Saturday by peeing on the couch I was sleeping on. Why was I sleeping on the couch? Cause she peed on my bed sometime yesterday as well. Roz keeps mentioning a UTI, but she managed to make it to her litter box all day Thursday and most of Friday, so I think Morgana's just being a little bitch for some reason.

So now I'm up at 6 on a Saturday, unable to fall back asleep because all my blankets AND places of sleep have cat piss on them. Guess I'll just twiddle my thumbs till I can wake Roz up and get the cleaning stuff she's got and my steam cleaner from her to get the smell of cat out of my apartment. This is why I hate animals. Yeah I'm good with 'em, and for about 85% of the time I adore them, but when they piss me off good Lord do they piss me off.

Enough about that, what else has been going on? Roz and I had our 3 month anniversary on the 31st. Unfortunately couldn't celebrate in the fancy out-on-the-town style I woulda liked, but had fun anyway (Of course, it was Halloween so that helped :p) She's got her new job so our paths cross less and less these days, but them's the breaks in the working world I guess.

Speaking of jobs, hopefully (knock on wood, salt over the shoulder) Border's should be calling soon. Talked to the HR manager at Huebner Oaks and he sounded interested, but my real hope lies in the Quarry where I've been talking to the Store manager. Due to how Border's takes its applications Huebner Oaks has to pass on me before Quarry can officially look at my application and schedule an interview, but I've been told if they receive my app it will definitly be looked at. Expecting the worst (why does responsible = pessimist?) I'm going to apply at The Red Balloon as well. It's a Children's bookstore on Broadway and while my knowledge is a bit rusty I did spend a year in the Children's section at Border's in MI so all it'll take is some brushing up. The classics stay the classics, all I need to do is learn what's hot now.

It's coming up on Christmas soon. Don't really wanna think on that, but I was informed that my brother (the older, full brother Shawn) will be joining my father and stepmother for Christmas here in SA. Me vs. Father with Stepmother as outside observer was fine, now the balance has tilted in favor of the axis. Hopefully I can get my Uncle to come up from Corpus giving me a much needed ally. Two generations of younger siblings vs the older ones...that'd be a Christmas brawl to remember.

Goddamn my apartment smells like cat piss. I can't detect the odor of such under normal circumstances (my sense of smell is shot) but this is permeating my nostrils. Morgana LeFay, menya malenkaya koshka, such a tiny little ball of evil.

If you don't care about sports I recommend you skip this paragraph and save yourself some time :) The Red Wings 9 game winning streak ended on Thursday. I was crushed, but it was to Edmonton whom I am still in awe of from my earliest days of watching hockey, so I guess it's okay. My Wings are still #1 in the NHL so I'll be okay. That was Thursday tho, this is Saturday and that means only one thing...College Football!!! First the 5 undefeateds who all technically still have a shot at the Rose Bowl...
1) Texas and Baylor...whomp, stomp, nothing more really needs to be said about this game. Vince Young against the Baylor D? At least another 350 yards offense from Vinnie alone, 250 passing 100+ rushing is my prediction. 45-10 Texas.
2) The force of nature that is USC plays Stanford today. I hate to ever admit to Janel that I think her alma mater is good, but since she doesn't read LJ I can do so here. They'll win today, by 11 is my prediction. It won't be a Heisman helping game for either Bush or Leinart (they'll post their average numbers but nothing brilliant) but it won't cost 'em anything in the voting either. 35-24 USC.
3) Bama and Mississipi State...nothing really to say here. Crimson Tide ownage led by Brodie Croyle, it's gonna be a rout. Infinity-10 Alabama
4) UCLA and Arizona...more Pac 10 infighting. I imagine this'll go very similar to the USC-Arizona game earlier this season, with Arizona taking an early lead only to lose it. UCLA has one of the greatest comeback offenses I've ever seen (The Stanford game!?!? Holy shit), so even if they're down going into the 4th I wouldn't count them out. Speaking of the Stanford game, I can only hope tht by some miracle the USC-Stanford game unfolds the same way as that one...without the 4th quarter comeback for the Trojans. 35-31 UCLA.
5) The game of all games today. #3 Virginia Tech and #5 Miami in the biggest ranking matchup of the year since #2 Texas beat #4 Ohio State (Yeah it's not really relevant but I like seeing Texas win and seeing OSU lose so I had to mention it...fuck you Buckeyes!) If VT wants a shot at the Rose Bowl they're gonna hafta beat their archnemesis of the ACC-Coastal. This'll be one helluva matchup even if I don't care for either team...some fine football. 17-14 Miami.
Now for the rest of the games I care about (which is only 4 cause Michigan is off this week)...
1) The Red Raiders and Aggies square off for Big 12 South 2nd place today :p Tech's coming off a huge win against Baylor, and being a monster passing team against the worst pass defense in the Big 12 there's no way for them to lose unless Reggie McNeal can outscore Tech, something I just don't see. 31-28 Texas Tech
2) Volunteers and Fighting Irish...a great non-conference rivalry game being played today. Tennessee doesn't have the dominance they usually possess, and Notre Dame is looking more and more like the Irish of olde. Brady Quinn will be the star of this game, throwing wherever he wants. 24-10 Notre Dame.
3) Wisconsin and Penn State are battling for the Big 10 Championship and I'm not sure who's going to win this one. This is gonna be some tough football, maybe the 2nd hardest fought game of the day (behind VT and Miami) I like the Badgers in this because...well I dunno, going with my gut here. 27-24 Wisconsin
4) Iowa and Northwestern. This game doesn't mean anything to the BCS rankings, but it's a Big 10 game any fan of that conference will care about. Wildcats and Hawkeyes are a staple of the B10, and even if neither of their performances are bowl worthy this year, their impact on the conference can never be overstated. 14-10 Northwestern.

Whew...okay so that was my college football summary. Odds are I'm not going to be even close on any of those predictions, as Brendan will probably rub in :p, but fuck it, I like makin' em! Okay I think that's a long enough post for now...Roz just called and is on her way with all the cleaning supplies so BOO that i have to clean but YAY that a sexy woman is bringing me the stuff to do so :)
